Troy Trojans Basketball in the News...
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy Comes up Short in
District Title Game. 03.10.2012 After
everything they'd been through. After all they'd
overcome. The Troy Trojans finally found one challenge
they couldn't get past. But just like they have all
season long, they fought to the end. The Fairfield
Indians - which knocked off defending state champion LaSalle
35-30 in their sectional final - were simply too tall, too
quick, too athletic and, most importantly, too deep for
Troy, winning every battle in the paint and outlasting every
Trojan attempt to get back into the game in a 59-45 Division
I District championship victory Saturday at UD Arena.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Trojans Win 2nd Straight
Sectional Game. 03.04.2012 Troy, still playing
without two starters that began the season with the team
since they were suspended with three games left in the
regular season, made clutch play after clutch play in the
game's final four minutes, coming out on top in a
back-and-forth battle with the tournament's surprise team,
Lebanon, and holding on for a hard-fought 58-54 victory
Saturday night at UD Arena, earning its second trip to the
district championship in as many years.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Hearing the Call to Action.
02.26.2012 When Kelley Kirtz got the call to action, he
answered. "I just felt like my teammates needed me,"
the Troy basketball team's senior said. "I felt like I had
to do something." That "something" was hitting the
game-winning shot with just 10 seconds left to play in
Troy's 49-48 victory over Butler Saturday in the first round
of the Division I sectional tournament at Trotwood-Madison
High School.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Trojans to play Avaitors.
02.13.2012 Even after drawing the fifth seed, Troy still got
to pick third. The Trojans - who got the No. 3 seed
last season to start their district tournament run - were
seeded fifth in this year's Division I Sectional tournament,
but after Northmont and Centerville, the third and fourth
seeds, passed, Troy still got to go up on the board third.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Trojans Beat Indians.
02.12.2012 Troy's Tori Merrell made her presence felt in the
post from start to finish against Piqua on Saturday.
In a crucial battle between rival schools, the senior
scorched the Indians in the paint, scoring a game-high 22
points and collecting 12 rebounds - eight of them being
offensive boards.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | May Clutch in OT
02.12.2012 Cody May provided the knockout punch, and Tyler
Miller rang the bell. May scored eight of his
team-high 24 points in overtime Saturday night against
Lebanon, and a heads-up hustle play by Miller to dive on a
loose ball to force a turnover and call timeout with 8.5
seconds left wrapped up a thrilling 82-78 Troy victory at
the Trojan Activities Center on the eve of the sectional
tournament draw.

BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Unsung Hereos.
02.11.2012 Down two starters.
With other starters recovering from illnesses. Playing
on the road.
With everything at stake. Even with all of the
potential for distraction, the Troy Trojans played more
focused and in-sync than they had all season. And as a
result, they're all alone atop the Greater Western Ohio
Conference North Division.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Troy Tops Sidney.
02.09.2012 Wood hit a 3 on her first possession back that
gave the Trojans the lead for good, kickstarting an 11-0 run
to close the third quarter - a quarter in which Troy did not
allow a single Sidney field goal - and the veterans powered
Troy to a 53-38 victory Wednesday night at the Trojan
Activities Center that put the team one win away from
clinching a second straight share of the Greater Western
Ohio Conference North Division title.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Clinched
01.29.2012 Troy clinched its first GWOC North title
since 2004 with a last-second win over rival Trotwood.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Trojans Snap Skid
01.28.2012 GREENVILLE - It was exactly what Troy
needed. Particularly before tonight. Four
Trojans reached double figures Friday night as Troy (9-5,
6-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division) defended
its unblemished record in division play with a 57-46 victory
at Greenville, snapping a three-game losing streak in the
process.

BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Too Much Offense.
01.26.2012 LEBANON - Known primarily
for their defense, the Troy Trojans showed they could do
just as well on the other end during the first half
Wednesday.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Vikings Rout Trojans
01.25.2012 MIAMISBURG - It took Troy a half to get
accustomed to living without Cody May's scoring ability.
Once they did, it was too late.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Not Enough Steam.
01.18.2012 Troy played most of Tuesday night's game
against Centerville without three of its starters on the
floor thanks to early and constant foul trouble, and even
four second-half 3s by Cody May - two in the game's final
minute - couldn't help the Trojans get out in a 54-50 loss
to the Elks at the Trojan Activities Center.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Trojans Fall to the Elks.
01.16.2012 Troy fought hard, but a 25-7 run by Centerville
in the second quarter was too much to overcome as the Elks
went on to win the game, 52-33.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy falls at Flyin' to the Hoops.
01.15.2012
After a one-handed dunk on the first half-court set of the
game, it was clear what kind of day it would be. But
when a blown alley-oop dunk led to a 3-pointer - by the
player that originally threw up the alley oop - the Troy
Trojans knew they weren't going to get a single break.

BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy Keeps Cool and Rolls Past Piqua.
01.14.2012
Chippy play, a technical both directions and lots of fan
involvement of the "boo" variety. It began a typical
Troy-Piqua matchup. Until the Trojans tuned it all out
and cold-heartedly took care of business. Cody May
helped Troy take the lead for good in the second quarter,
Zach Martinez put the game away in the third, Tyler Miller
was solid throughout in his first start back from an injury
and the Trojans got significant contributions from everyone
that saw time on the floor in a 66-52 victory at rival Piqua
Friday night.

BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Wood Hits Clutch Shot.
01.12.2012 When Troy's offense needed a jump-start late in
the third quarter, Kristen Wood was up for the task.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Fairmont Snaps Troy's 6-game Winning Streak.
01.11.2012 Troy struggled to knock down shots all night
long at Fairmont High School's Trent Arena Tuesday night,
including a host of misses in the game's final minute - any
one of which that could have turned the tide - in a 48-46
loss to the Firebirds that snapped the Trojans' six-game
winning streak.

BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | May hits 29, Troy Holds Off Butler.
01.07.2012 Troy may have a target on its back. But
Friday night, it was Cody May and company that were on the
mark. May dropped a career-high 29 points on Butler,
and - after the Aviators chipped their way back into the
game in the fourth quarter - Zach Martinez got a piece of a
late 3-point attempt by Mark Tindall to help the Trojans
hang on for a 61-54 victory at the Student Activities
Center.

BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Head of the Pack.
01.05.2012 After one run through the Greater Western Ohio
Conference North Division, the Troy Trojans are right where
they wants to be. Leaving everyone else in the dust.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Trojans used a 24 pt. Run to Outdistance Wave.
12.21.2011 After Friday night's emotionally- and
physically-draining victory over Trotwood, the Troy Trojans
could easily have followed with a letdown. Instead, they
rarely let up.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Ancient History: Troy Beats Trotwood.
12.17.2011 No matter how chaotic things got. No matter
how fast and furious the reigning Greater Western Ohio
Conference North Division champion Trotwood Rams came at
them. No matter the history between the teams. The
Troy Trojans stayed calm, focused - and got the job done.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Troy rebounds and beats Butler.
12.18.2011 After a tough loss at Beavercreek Thursday - and
with a critical Greater Western Ohio Conference North
Division game staring them in the face Saturday - the Troy
Trojans did what they do best. Buckled down late.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Beavers hold off Trojans.
12.16.2011 BEAVERCREEK - The Troy Trojans typically like
their chances in a defensive battle.
Thursday, someone got the better of them.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy beats Miami East 69-60.
12.14.2011 Miami East handled the ball well, didn't turn it
over and kept Troy from running up and down the floor.
But the Trojans were perfectly content in the half court,
too.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | Firebirds top Trojans.
12.11.2011 The returning Division I State runner-up
Firebirds absorbed the Trojans' 6-0 run to start Saturday's
Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover test at the Trojan
Activities Center, then they turned on the pressure and
pulled away with a flawless second-half effort, knocking off
Troy 58-38. But as the Trojans (3-1) showed early on,
they were not intimidated by the No. 1 ranked team in the
area.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy beats Sidney 81-41.
12.10.2011 In Friday night's GWOC North Division opener at
the Trojan Activities Center, the Trojans outhustled,
outshot and outplayed the Yellowjackets from start to finish
in an 81-41 blowout - so much so, in fact, that the starters
all earned the entire fourth quarter off thanks to their
effort and performance.
BASKETBALL
[GIRLS] | All the Pieces.
12.08.2011 After two narrow victories to start the season,
Troy (3-0) shot the lights out from long range, pounded the
ball inside, recorded steal after steal on defense that it
turned into fast points on the offensive end and generally
outclassed the outmatched West Carrollton Pirates in a 64-19
victory Wednesday at the Trojan Activities Center.
BASKETBALL
[BOYS] | Troy Struggles in Loss to Beavercreek.
12.07.2011 Beavercreek turned the ball over less than 10
times, took control of the boards and forced Troy to make
uncharacteristic mistakes, cruising to a 59-41 victory
Tuesday at the Trojan Activities Center to even the Trojans'
record at 1-1 heading into Friday's Greater Western Ohio
Conference North Division opener against Sidney.

BASKETBALL [BOYS] |
No Hesitation.
12.04.2011 Martinez jammed it in with one hand after
receiving a bomb of an inbounds pass from Cody May to
punctuate a 13-1 second-quarter run by the Trojans -
including nine straight points by Martinez - to help Troy
fully take hold of the momentum and cruise to a 63-46
opening-night victory Friday at the Trojan Activities
Center.
