Troy Comes Up Short Against Defending State Champs Loyalsock

It just wasn't Troy girls basketball's night on Wednesday as they ran into a veteran Loyalsock squad, and fell 52-30 during District IV, Class AAA semifinal action.

The Lancers jumped out to a 13-4 first quarter lead thanks to a 6-0 Loyalsock run late in the frame. The Lancers then out scored Troy 16-8 in the second quarter for a 29-12 lead at the half.

In the third they held the Trojans to four points as they pulled away.

Raelyn Woodward and Kyah Renzo had nine points each to lead the Trojans, with Woodward netting hers on three 3-pointers.

Emma Mickley added four points, as Izzy Renzi, and Kyli Oldroyd had three points each. Giana Renzi rounded out the scorers with two points.

Bucknell bound Alaina Dadzie had 20 lead Loyalsock.

It was a defensive start to the game with the Lancers taking a 5-0 lead with 3:47 left in the frame. A Renzo bucket got Troy on the scoreboard for a 5-2 contest at the 3:11 mark.

Roughly 30 seconds later an Izzy jumper saw Troy cut it to 7-4 before the Lancers went on their late run in the final 2-and-a-half minutes.

Woodward opened the second quarter with a 3-ball to make it 13-7, but Dadzie answered with a jumper.

Izzy would get to the line and go 1-for-2 for a 7-point ball game, but a a Loyalsock 5-0 run pushed their advantage to 20-8.

At the 4:17 mark Renzo scored on a drive for a 10-point contest, but the Lancers answered with four straight.

Renzo hit a turn around jumper with just under two minutes left in the half but Loyalsock scored five in the last minute for the 17 point lead at the break.

Loyalsock opened the third with a bucket, but Mickley answered for Troy off a Giana helper. Giana then bagged a jumper of her own to make it a 14-point game at 30-16, but then the Lancers went on a 12-0 run to finish out the quarter.

Woodward hit a pair of 3-balls in the fourth to lead Troy.

The Trojans will face Mt. Carmel, who lost 40-25 to Hughesville, in the third place game at a time, date, and place to be determined.
